Apple Cider Vinegar – My favourite new superfood :)

As you all know I am a big advocate of eating good quality and nutritious food but recently I was feeling a little bit more bloated than normal so I decided to try out something that I often suggest to my clients which is to have a morning shot of Apple Cider vinegar! 

 

I was very pleased with the results and how much better my digestion was for including this powerful ingredient into my diet every morning and this has now become a regular morning shot for me! The health benefits of this age old remedy are great and here are a few of my favourites 🙂

 

1.) Helps with Digestion. Aiding digestion is possibly one of apple cider vinegar’s biggest claims to fame. It can help with common indigestion and gastrointestinal discomfort caused by certain foods and it is said to clear up chronic acid reflux when taken religiously with each meal.

 

2.) Keeps You Slim. Studies show that Apple Cider Vinegar helps regulate your blood sugar levels. This is an essential component of getting and staying lean! If your blood sugar levels are spiking and plummeting – simple starches like white bread, and sugary snacks will cause this – your body will store fat, increasing your risk for diabetes and heart disease. Remember it won’t work if your diet is rubbish though as ACV should be an accompaniment to a healthy, balanced diet.

 

3.) Aids in Detoxification. Apple Cider Vinegar is rich in important enzymes that help your body detox, as the unique acids in apple cider vinegar can bind to toxins and help the body eliminate them more effectively.

 

4.) Balances the BodyIf you enjoy coffee and the odd treat (like me!) it’s essential to bring your body back to an alkaline state.  The acetic acid in ACV balances your pH to help keep your body alkaline and a balanced. A more alkaline body means better immune function and increased energy! Yes, vinegar is acidic, but don’t let that mislead you. It’s effect on your body is extremely alkalizing. The same is true for lemons & limes.

 

5.) For Soft and Shiny Hair. Acetic acid, the main ingredient in ACV, will remove build up from styling products and conditioners and strengthen the hair shaft, leaving you with soft, shiny strands! Dilute 1/3 cup ACV in 4 cups of water and pour over your hair after shampooing. Leave it in for a few seconds before rinse your hair using cold water to seal the hair shaft and create more shine. Use no more than once a week!

 

TRY MY NEW LOVE YOUR BODY MORNING SHOT! 

Ingredients:

  • 1 small cup of water
  • Tiniest pinch of cayenne or red pepper
  • 2 tbs Apple Cider Vinegar
  • ¼ cup sugar free apple juice
  • ¼ teaspoon Cinnamon

 

You can also add 1-3 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar to a glass of warm or cool water before each meal, or add it to hot water with a little honey and drink it as a tea. Apple cider vinegar is also great as a salad dressing when mixed with flaxseed oil and honey.

 

Bragg's apple cider vinegarIt’s important to buy an apple cider vinegar that is organic and unfiltered so that all of its nutritional value is in tact. The Bragg’s brand is great which you can buy on Amazon. The hazy looking stuff that settles to the bottom is called “the mother” and it is said to be the most nutritious part of the apple cider vinegar for its therapeutic benefits. NOTE: If you are breast-feeding it is advised that you use a pasteurised cider vinegar instead of this version.
